In the early hours of Monday morning, Builder Olusesan Daini, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), celebrated Domestic Sexual Violence Awareness Day, also known as Purple Day, with students of Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School in igbogbo kingdom. The event, themed “#SBBV Not On My Watch,” aimed to raise awareness and empower young individuals to stand against all forms of abuse.
Arriving at the event, Bldr. Daini warmly welcomed and thanked the staff and students for lending their support against domestic sexual violence, all of whom wore a touch of purple in support of the cause. In his remarks, Daini emphasized the importance of educating young minds about the dangers and signs of domestic and sexual violence. “As leaders and mentors, it is our duty to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from fear and abuse,” he stated. “This year’s theme, ‘#SBBV Not On My Watch,’ is not just a slogan; it is a call to action for each of us to be vigilant and proactive in preventing violence in our communities.”
Highlighting the role of education in combatting violence, Daini encouraged the students to become ambassadors of peace and respect within their communities. “You are the future leaders of our society, and it is imperative that you understand the power of your voice and actions in shaping a safer world,” he told the students.
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to stand against domestic and sexual violence, echoing the sentiment of the day: “Not on my watch.” Builder Daini’s engagement with the students at Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School not only underscored his commitment to ending violence but also fostered a sense of community resilience and responsibility among the youth.
As the awareness ended, students expressed their appreciation for the awareness event, with many stating they felt more empowered to speak out against violence.
